After yearning for decades, finally Australia got to moved into the Asian Football Confederation in 2005 and they had their wish fulfilled. Actually, the move came in as a win-win situation for both Asia as well as Australia as Australia had a chance of their play-offs with Asian countries where as Asia got one of the best teams in football that straight away made their marked to book their berth in 2006 world cup in Germany after long time of 32 years. The Australian football team reached to the top when they reached into the second round of 2006 world cup after competing with heavy weights like Brazil, Croatia and Japan.
The team lost the final – 16 contests by a whisker when the penalty was awarded to eventual champions Italy in the dying moments of the game. Australia was the only Asian team to reach to that level in world cup.
As it was expected, team made their way into the FIFA world cup 2010 in South Africa under the guidance of Dutch man Pim Verbeek. The team is looking for their star players Tim Cahill, Mark SCHWARZER Brett EMERTON and John Aloisi. Pim Verbeek will surely look forward to break the last-16 competition in the football’s biggest competition with a strong Soccer team.
