Spanish football league La Liga 2010-2011: As it happened!

Spanish football league La Liga

2011 turned out to be a perfect year for FC Barcelona, as they wrapped up the season with another La Liga title. Leading the table by 96 points and beating archrivals Real Madrid football club by a mere 4 points, Barcelona have been on a roll this year. The 1-1 tie at Levante on 11th May provided this momentous moment, allowing Barcelona to extend its winning streak to 3 consecutive years.

Here’s why Barcelona are hailed as the undisputed champions of Spain by many, and of Europe by many others so.
This year’s victory was the 21st one in the history of La Liga as well as the 5th title for FC Barcelona in the past seven years. A star of unimaginable class and style nonetheless, Spanish footballer and front-man for FC Barcelona, David Villa did struggle slightly at certain points in the League.  Add to that the variation in form of Pedro, and the loss of Eric Abidal because of his liver tumour, prospects weren’t the brightest this year for Barcelona. Yet they emerged victors and clenched the title, adding as a further testimony to their might and class.
Undeniably the biggest asset for FC Barcelona is the famous football player Lionel Messi. The backbone ofBarcelona’s attack, this Argentinian genius has to his name 31 goals this La Liga season.  While the high level of reliance that Barcelona has on Messi could possibly in the future emerge to be fatal, given the occurance of an injury or any other mishap, as of now this star footballer has never provided his team with any reason to cringe.
Coach Josep Guardiola therefore has plenty of reasons to rejoice and celebrate; at the age of only 40, he has to his honour 3 La Liga titles in 3 years of service for FC Barcelona.
Here’s hoping this young coach can guide this team to higher honours, and with the consistency that Barcelona is currently displaying, one has little reason to hope otherwise.
