Famous Football Player: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
He was born in Portugal, established himself as a world-class footballer in England and now stars for Real Madrid, in Spain. While his credentials, awards, accomplishments and accolades are impressive Cristiano Ronaldo is probably best known for his price tag, as opposed to his considerable skill. Popular rumor has it that Real Madrid paid a whopping $132 million dollars for the privilege of stealing Ronaldo from Manchester United. In addition to his play for the Real Madrid squad, Ronaldo is also the captain of Portugal’s National Team. While some may question whether or not he is worth the historic sum of money, no one can argue that he has not already accumulated more honors and garnered more respect as a player than many who’ve been in the game longer.
When Manchester United won the Champions League in 2008, Cristiano Ronaldo was named player of the tournament. That was only four years after the young forward scored his first international goal in 2004. Along with the nod in the tournament, he picked up a couple of other honors including: 2008FIF Pro World Player of the Year, 2009 FIFA World Player of the Year and The Ballon d’Or. He was also the Premier League’s Golden Boot winner in 2007/08 and during that same season picked up the European Golden Shoe award. In short, the young players accumulation of honors is more than impressive and if he can stay healthy and continue to play, he will no doubt continue to add more to his already long list of accomplishments.
Since joining Real Madrid, Ronaldo has been plagued by injuries and has yet to fulfill the great expectations that management so clearly has for him. Still, he is a talented young player and, when he is healthy, a real motivator for his teammates and a fan favorite wherever he plays.
Once again, an awesome round up. C. Ronaldo is no doubt a superstar of Football’s hall of fame, and has the making of becoming some of the greatest football players of all times. The world has yet to see Portugal play so far in Fifa 2010, but whenever the team enters the field, all eyes will be locked on to the young talent who’s been handed over the responsibility of leading his team. Ronaldo has very sharp responses, an experience of playing with (and against) almost all superstars, and the calm of a true sportsman. The responsibility of being the team captain may affect his performance as a player. And here’s to hoping it will not! Rock on, C Ronaldo!
Good info abt him . Ronaldo is a good player but I guess his move to Real Madrid will take some spot light off him as there are loads of good player in that team. When in Manu he was given special treatment.
Now looking forward to see him in the worldcup lets see if he can do something special for his national team. I am sure many eyes will be on him. By the way surprise that Real Madrid paid so much for him and he is yet to perform as per his capabilities.
Thank you for the awesome article This is just the thing I needed this morning!!!
No doubt, he is one of the best players in the wold. He is fast n furious. He has got tremendous pace. He scares the defenders with his mesmerizing footwork. This was his first season at Real Madrid and despite having injury plagued season, he finished 3rd top scorer in La Liga and the 2nd at Real Madrid, just one goal short than Higuain.
