David Villa Sanchez, nicknamed El Guaje, born on December 3, 1981, is a Spanish international footballer. He plays as a striker for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national football team.

David Villa started his football career with Sporting de Gijon B in 1999, where he scored 25 goals in 65 appearances and was promoted to the professional football club Sporting de Gijon in 2001, where he scored 38 goals in 80 appearances. After two successful seasons with Sporting Gijon, Villa moved to Spanish league club Real Zaragoza, where he made his La Liga debut and scored 31 goals in 73 appearances in the next two seasons, winning the first senior honours, the ‘Copa del Rey’ and ‘SuperCupa de Espana’. Later in 2005, he joined Valencia football club for a transfer fee of €12 million and won the Copa del Rey title for his club in 2007-08 season. He was also the second highest goal scorer in the 2005-06 season with 25 goals. In 2010, Villa finally moved to Spanish giants FC Barcelona for a transfer fee of €40 million.

David Villa made his international career for Spain in 2005 against San Marino. He has since participated in three major international tournaments, the FIFA World Cup 2006, the Euro 2008, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He scored three goals at the 2006 World Cup, was the top goal scorer at Euro 2008 with six goals and earned the Silver Boot at the 2010 World Cup, scoring five goals in the tournament and was subsequently named in the FIFA World Cup All-Star team. With 44 goals in his international career for Spain, he is the all-time top goal scorer with Raul Gonzalez and also scored more World Cup goals than any player in Spain’s history.

David Villa has scored 255 goals throughout in his club career and played 487 matches. On an international level, Villa has scored 44 goals in 71 appearances for the national team Spain.
