Famous football players: Nilmar Honorato da Silva -Villarreal football club

Nilmar Honorato da Silva -Villarreal football clubNilmar Honorato da Silva, well known as Nilmar, is a Brazilian international footballer, born on July 14, 1984, in Bandeirantes, Brazil. Nilmar currently plays for Villarreal CF and the Brazilian national team as a striker.

After coming through the Internacional youth teams in the age of just 18, Nilmar started his professional football career in the 2003-04 season, helping Internacional to state championship glory in 2003 and 2004. After being hindered by injury problems over the subsequent few years, Nilmar re-emerged as one of the most exciting, efficient Brazilian forwards.

In summer 2004, Nilmar was signed by Lyon (French football club) in a very high profile deal. Nilmar started well for Lyon, scoring two debut goals as a substitute against Stade Rennais (French football club). Unfortunately, he didn’t contribute any further goals in League 1 that season. After failing to settle at the French heavyweights, he loaned himself to his homeland side ‘Corinthians’ in 2005.

Nilmar’s amazing skills, speed, mazy dribbles and fine finishes played a crucial role in O Timão capturing the Brasileirao title in his first term at the club and helped win Nilmar a place in the Brazilian League all-star team for the 2005 season. Again, injury and inconsistency restricted his output the following year and, in 2007, he rejoined Internacional.

Thereafter, he never looked back. During his stay in Internacional from 2007 to 2009, he scored 19 goals in 35 appearances, helping O Colorado win two Campeonato Gaucho titles and the Copa Sudamericana. In May 2009, he also scored an amazing goal by breaking the opponents defense into pieces, to earn international victory over Corinthians.

On July 25, 2009, Fernando Roig, the President of Villarreal football club, confirmed the signing of Nilmar. Nilmar played his first game of the La Liga for Villarreal football club in 2009-10 against CA Osasuna. Throughout his Club career, Nilmar has scored 86 goals in 259 appearances and 9 goals in 23 matches for Brazil.
