Famous German Football Player Gerd Müller

Gerd Muller

He was born on 3 Nov, 1945 in Nordiingen. His full name was Gerhard Muller and people called him short squat, and even fat, but he was one of the most successful goal scorers not only in the German league, but also in the history of German football. When he joined Bayern Munich along with Maier and Backenbauer in first half of 60s, Bayern used to play in provincial league. No one thought he would be part of the golden generation of club that laid the foundation of what would become the most successful club in the history of Bundesliga.

He holds so many records that it is hard to keep track of all of them one of unique records is that he scored 68 international goals in just 62 international appearances at an unprecedented average of better than one goal per match. He is 10th on the top goal scorers list, despite the fact that each one in top 25 of that list has played lot more matches than him. Another record that stood for long time was the total number of goals that he scored in the world cup. He scored 14 goals in two world cups. Again, another wonderful striker Ronaldo beat his record in 2006, but he played in four world cups and lot more matches then Gerd Muller. He also scored 365 goals in 427 games in Bundesliga, which was another record. Critics remember him as the ultimate opportunist and one of the greatest goal scorers of all time.
