Italian Serie A- Domestic Cups
Two domestic cups are played in Italian Serie A, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana. Coppa Italia is officially known as the TIM Cup because of its sponsorship and it is an annual competition. Roma and Juventus are the two clubs that are leading with nine wins in the history of the cup. More finals in the Coppa Italia have contested by Roma with a total of 16 finals. Behind Roma is Juventus and Torino with 13 finals.
In Coppa Italia 78 teams are eligible to play and all are from Football League. In this competition, there are First Phase, Second Phase, semi finals and finals. First phase consists of four rounds and the second phase consists of round of 16 and quarter finals. Supercoppa Italiana is the pre-season competition that starts the week before the season. Supercoppa Italiana is held at Italy annually and is contested by the winners of Serie A and Coppa Italia of the previous season. Supercoppa Italia is generally played at the home of Serie A champions. If the same team wins both Coppa Italia and Serie A, then it is played by Serie A winner and runners-up of the Coppa Italia. All these domestic Serie A cups are important tournaments for Italian football league.
