Hungarian football: Videoton football club

Videoton football club is a Hungarian club that was founded back in 1941 and is one of the best known clubs coming out of the small European country. Originally the team was made up of factory workers of a manufacturing company that initially founded the club.

Videoton FC play their home games at Stadion sostoi which has a capacity just over 14,000. The club plays majority of it’s home games in their historic colors of blue and red and the away games are played in a yellow kit.

The club got to play in the first division of the Hungarian league in the 1967 season for the first time when it finished second in Division 2. The name of the club was changed to Videoton SC in 1968 since they were being sponsored by a national electrical goods provider Videoton. Although the club did not have a great run until the 1980’s because of a constant relegation battle that they were facing, but it is widely known that they had a fantastic run of play during the 1984 season where they ended up beating a lot of the big European clubs.

Even though they are now a power house in Hungarian football but the last season could not ensure them a place in the UEFA Champions league because they finished second in the national league but are playing in the Europa League this season instead.
