VFL Bochum football club's performance

VFL Bochum football club have been one of those rare lower division clubs in Germany who had performances which have not only given them national recognition but also European recognition as well.

VFL Bochum football club have featured in the final the German national cup also known as the DFB-Pokal twice but were fortunate to miss out on the winners medal. The played the final once in 1968 and then again in 1988. The club has also won the German second division title 3 times and have been promoted to the German Bundesliga 6 times. The memorable moments for the club were definitely in the 1997 and 2004 seasons where they did not only play in the Bundesliga but also qualified for the UEFA Cup. On more than a few occasions strikers for VFL Bochum FC have been in the list of the top scorers in the Bundesliga as well.

Had it not been for a group of extra ordinary and hard working players, the mid level club would not have been able to enjoy relatively good success at all. Players like Stefan Kuntz, who proved pivotal in the 1985-86 season in the Bundesliga where he ended up scoring 22 goals for the club and in recent times Thomas Christiansen in 2002-2003 where he was the top scorer in the Bundesliga. Theofanis Gekas was another great servant for the club where by he scored 20 goal in the 2006-2007 season.
