Bordeaux football club have always been a formidable force within French football but it is extremely unfortunate that although the club has had some great players within its ranks over the years they have never been able to perform to their potential within Europe.

The club has so far won a total of 6 league championships. Bordeaux enjoyed its golden period during the mid 80’s when the club won 3 titles under the 1998 world cup winning manager, Aime Jacquet. The club last won the league in the 2008-2009 season when it finally ended Lyon’s seven consecutive league winning years. The club currently lies at 8th spot with 19 points behind league leaders Lille. The club’s European campaigns have been very forgettable with only a handful of noticeable performances. These include the 1995 UEFA Intertoto Cup and runners up medal for the 1995-96 UEFA Cup against Bayern Munich football club.

After Claude Bez invested heavily into the club, Bordeaux FC regain the lost confidence and now surely seem to be on the rise towards some well deserved success both nationally and internationally. Most of the national success for the club came under Andre Gerard who also happens to be the club’s longest serving manager.  This french football club enjoys a lot of popularity.

French football club: Bordeaux football club

Football Club des Girondins de Bordeaux simply known as Bordeaux football club is one of the most revered clubs in France. It is interesting to note that though football is what Bordeaux is known for worldwide nowadays, it actually started out as a multi sport club in 1881. The team plays its home games at the 34,000 plus stadium Stade Chaban-Delmas in traditional dark blue kits. The away colors are normally cream or purple.

Throughout history the club has been facing tough times and at the same time enjoyed reasonable success in Europe and some exceptional success back at home in France. Although it was always a well known club in France but it became prominent globally when millions were injected into its rebuilding and restructuring by Claude Bez.

Bordeaux football club’s history is full of players loved and respected around the globe. It has been home to the likes of Zinadine Zidane, Lizarazu, Lacombe, Dugarry, Chamakh and Gourcuff in the past. The club’s current captain and talisman is the talented defensive mid-fielder Alo Diarra who also captained the national team in its last match of the recent 2010 World Cup and is still producing some great talent through its youth system to serve the national team.
