FC Koln football club is one of the most successful clubs in Germany. Although they have not had an exceptional record within Europe but certainly back at home their record is worth applauding.

Not only have they been champions of Germany on three occasions in 1962, 1964 and 1978, they have also been runners up on seven different occasions. DFB-Pokal seems to be one of the most favorite hunting grounds for this mammoth German club, they have bagged the title four times but have been runners up on six different occasions. Undoubtedly, one of the highest points that FC Koln has achieved within it’s history is the runners up medal that received in the 1986 UEFA Cup in which they played supremely and became a genuine force to reckon with in Europe.

There have been some very famous names that have been associated with FC Koln football club over the years and of the most famous is the German star that one recall’s from the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Lukas Podolski. He is been one of the most consistent and ruthless strikers who have played the game and FC Koln have been lucky to have had him for a long time although he briefly played his football at Bayern Munich FC. Thomas Cichon is a defender who represented the club for almost a decade and served them in some of the club’s toughest times. Other players of note include Petit, Martin Lanig and Fabrice Ehret.

Most of the modern football clubs in Germany are a result of the post world war 2 mergers and FC Koln is one of them. A relatively young club, FC Koln football club was formed in 1948 and is based in Cologne, Germany.

This successful German club has a group of faithful supporters who came to support each and every home game which is played at Rheinenergiesatdion which has a capacity in excess of 50000 making it a fairly decent sized club. The players wear a bright kit for the home games and a multi colored red and black with predominantly white color for the away games.

FC Koln football club has recently been a yo-yo club because of a regular relegations into the German 2nd division although it is known to have played most of their football in the Bundesliga. They were relegated for the first time back in 1998 and previously were one of the most stable clubs in the west side of Germany by winning most points.

The club did not have a great season thus far but with a new manager in the ranks and the fans backing up the players, everyone is hopeful that FC Koln would again become a dominant name in German football in the coming years.
